What are DTF Transfer Rolls, technically speaking?

What are the benefits of DTF over other heat transfers?
DTF Film can be transferred to a dark shirt (due to the use of white DTF ink), which is not possible with regular thermal transfer printing.
DTF are more colorful than thermal transfer printing.
DTF printing is more breathable, smoother to the touch, and more flexible - something you can't do with traditional thermal transfer printing.
